With 13 years at TUT's Faculty of ICT, Mashitishi B. Phurutsi has established himself as a visionary leader in educational technology and community engagement. His mission to make learning vibrant and fashionable has transformed the educational landscape for thousands of students.
Mashitishi believes that education should be accessible, engaging, and relevant to the 4IR+ revolution. Through innovative programs and strategic partnerships, he has bridged the gap between academic learning and real-world application, preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
His work extends beyond the classroom, focusing on historically disadvantaged communities and ensuring that quality education reaches those who need it most. This commitment to equity and excellence drives his vision for smarter, stronger higher education governance.

Informatics Community Engagement Programme
Pioneering Project-Based Learning
As the founder and director of the Informatics Community Engagement Programme (ICEP), Mashitishi has created a pioneering project-based learning internship that has empowered over 1000 students in agile and cloud-based development since 2013.
ICEP represents a revolutionary approach to education, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Students work on real-world projects, gaining valuable experience while contributing to community development and technological advancement.

University Hackathon Series (UHS)
Energising Student Innovation
Mashitishi founded and leads the University Hackathon Series (UHS), energising student innovation across Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng through three annual hackathons since 2018.
He believes that hackathons are more than just coding marathons but they're catalysts for the 4IR+ revolution, building bridges between municipalities, industry, academia, and the communities they serve.
